President and Chief Executive Officer
Since 2002, Flint Hills Resources has more than doubled the number of employees and tripled the number of physical assets we oversee. Throughout this period of growth, we have continued to evolve as a company while never straying from our MBM® Guiding Principles and our commitment to 10,000 percent compliance with 100 percent of employees fully complying 100 percent of the time. It’s an expectation we have of ourselves and it’s an expectation that we have in common with our shareholder, Koch Industries, Inc.
While measuring our growth is straightforward, we also attempt to measure progress toward efficient use of resources, our ability to be a good neighbor in our communities, and continuous operational improvement, especially in environmental, health and safety areas.
This report on our EH&S performance in 2007 seeks to illustrate the progress we are making toward 10,000 percent compliance and continuous improvement. This follows our first EH&S report and includes partial year safety and environmental data for the assets we acquired in 2007: olefins and polymers plants in Illinois, Michigan and Texas. The pipeline systems that we acquired in 2007 are operated by our affiliate Koch Pipeline Company, L.P.
We recognize that our facilities are part of the many communities in which we operate. As a result, we are committed to helping improve those communities through time and donations to organizations focused on that lofty goal.
We also recognize the critical role our employees play in the success of our organization. Our expectations are that all employees act with integrity and strive for continuous improvement. Our Guiding Principles guide us toward that goal. Our Code of Conduct is a tool that spells out our expectations and provides employees an opportunity to raise concerns anonymously. Today’s business world is complex; industries are subject to many regulations and laws.We are committed to meeting regulatory expectations and, where practical, exceeding them.We believe doing so is essential to our long-term success.
Sincerely
Brad Razook
